BOOK READING AND CONSERVATION TALK
Pre-school and primary – Melinda wrote Digger Gets The Itch as an educational story to teach children and families about Kanimbla Wombats and help educate the community on how they too can help! Melinda is qualified in early childhood education and is a licensed wildlife carer and co-founder of Kanimbla Wombats. Melinda has now published her latest book in the conservation series Vinnie The Rescue Kangaroo. This will include a talk about conservation and the need to protect all native animals by driving slowly on country roads.
High School – Workshops focus on educating the children on wombats and mange through a slide show and providing them with the opportunity to see footage of wombats and ask questions. It will also be an opportunity for them to learn what it is like to work and study environmental sciences and see some of the equipment used by us in the field
Thank you Kanimbla Wombats for visiting today and teaching us about the important work you do, and what we can do, to look after wombats with mange and kangaroos orphaned by fast cars. The children particularly enjoyed pretending to be wombats, crawling through their tunnels – learning in the process how wombats are treated for the very serious illness called mange. Kanimbla Wombats is great at putting these important topics into a child’s level of understanding.
